  63. INTRODUCTION:
  64.  
  65. The native Amiga port of all these programs was done by Andreas Scherer
  66. on the basis of the complete "Web2c 7.2" Unix installation of the `TeX'
  67. system (see http://www.tug.org/web2c.html) as maintained by Olaf Weber,
  68. who took over from Karl Berry.  Modifications and enhancements were
  69. introduced to make the implementation work on the Amiga with the
  70. SAS/C++ 6.58 compiler.
  71.  
  72. What you get with `amiweb2c21.lha' is a stripped excerpt of the
  73. complete `Unix-TeX' system from
  74.  
  75.    ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/systems/web2c/
  76.  
  77. ported to the Amiga.  Due to its total size of more than 30 megabytes
  78. of installed material, I decided to exclude everything that is publicly
  79. available from either AmiNet (e.g., ftp://ftp.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/
  80. pub/aminet/) or more likely from CTAN (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network;
  81. the German node is ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/), so in addition to
  82. the present distribution you will have to fetch several other packages
  83. before you can start for real.

  85. So why should you want to get `amiweb2c21.lha' at all?  Because it
  86. contains a native port of the famous `texk' implementation of the TeX
  87. system for Unix, on which most of the installations are based.
  88.  
  89. Included are (among others)
  90.  
  91.    TeX 3.14159 (standard TeX, e-TeX, Omega, and PDFTeX)
  92.    MetaFont 2.718
  93.    BibTeX 0.99c
  94.    MetaPost 0.64
  95.    DVIPS 5.78

  97. and a lot of auxiliary tools and programs.  The complete Unix-TeX system
  98. was ported directly from the Web2c 7.2 system, which already provides full
  99. (yet hidden) support for the Amiga.  Necessary stuff for implementors is
  100. coming with this distribution.

  102. The contents of this archive is automatically installed at the
  103. appropriate places by either the command
  104.  
  105.    $ lha x -a amiweb2c21.lha
  106.  
  107. or the commands
  108.  
  109.    $ gzip -d amiweb2c-2.1.tar.gz
  110.    $ tar xvf amiweb2c-2.1.tar
  111.  
  112. depending on the source from where you fetched the distribution.
  113.  
  114. Almost 11 (metric) megabytes will be extracted to the root directory
  115. `AmiWeb2c-2.1/'.  Everything else has to be added in the directory
  116. structure below this top level.  The bulk of either archive consists
  117. of the binaries for all programs created from the original Web2c sources.

  120. "AmiWeb2c 2.1" is given in "texmf/doc/amiga/README.amiweb2c".
